Resell
Resell is a platform I helped design as a member of Cornell Appdev↗, a project team on campus dedicated to improving the lives of Cornell students through our applications. Our goal with Resell was to create a safe marketplace to empower Cornell students to buy and sell used goods. I served as one of three founding designers on the project, and we worked with a team of seven engineers and a product manager to bring this product from zero to beta launch by the time I left the team.

Resell officially launched in 2024, and has 400+ monthly users as of February 2025.

Project Context
Buying and selling secondhand items is an easy way for college students to save money; however, based on user research, Cornell students were struggling to take advantage of existing platforms to do so.
All users interviewed wanted to buy and sell used items
...but only 3/17 used existing solutions to do so
Problems with Existing Solutions
Students cited 3 main problems with existing solutions.

1. Lack of a one-stop location where they could browse for items to buy/post for sale.

2. Safety concerns, as anyone could be posting on platforms in Reddit or Facebook Marketplace.

3. Difficulty in coordinating the meetup time and location to exchange goods.
A simple search on Reddit highlights the need for a community resell platform
Introducing Resell
With these needs in mind, we created Resell, a community-based secondhand marketplace exclusively for Cornell students. We proposed that interactions on the platform would be through a chat functionality, with Resell providing features to address friction points such as sharing availability to coordinate meetup time, providing templates for price negotiation, and integrating the app with Venmo to make the payment process as smooth as possible.
